The 3 Biggest Enemies that Damage Your Mag Wheels

Your mag or other alloy wheels were bought to look beautiful. The fact remains, however, that there are at least three big “enemies” of your mag wheels that will cause damage or disrepair to them when encountered in the wrong way. In this article, we’ll reveal these three foes and why you should be wary of them at all times.

1. Brake Dust

This is probably the wiliest of the three dangers to your alloy wheels, mostly because there are no obvious physical signs of an encounter when you are out and about. When you’re parked up, take a look at your wheel rims and see if you can see any pitting or dark discoloration anywhere on the wheel. If you see it, then it’s likely brake dust, the build up of which can bring big problems, especially if it sits on your surfaces and then gets burned away by heat. It can leave you with a rather displeasing finish.

2. Potholes

The second enemy are often visible in the road, but sometimes still hard to avoid. If you have reason to suspect a road may have potholes (e.g. it generally appears to be in bad repair) then slow down and keep your eyes peeled. If the road is empty, don’t be afraid of switching lanes to avoid them, but always take care not to put yourself in a dangerous position. Taking the obstacle slowly and carefully can minimize impact.

3. The Kerb

When you take tight corners or are parking up on the street, the kerb always presents a risk to your beautiful mag wheels. A turn too sharp or too fast can result in a collision with the hard kerb, resulting in scuffs, scratches and even dents and serious bending to your wheel rims. Sometimes that loud ‘bang’ noise you hear even on a slow impact can mean pretty lasting or visible damage.
